I intend to teach upper elementary or possibly 6th grade math. Fortunately, I have been placed in a fifth grade classroom in a WJCC school (Rawls Byrd Elementary). I'm very interested in preparing my students for their adolescent years. I want to do this by creating a positive learning environment that promotes independently motivated learning that encourages students to explore their discipline of passion in depth. I also strive to expose my students to new ideas and ways of thinking to create productive, critical thinking members of society. My biggest hope is that my students leave my classroom with the self confidence and drive they will need as they move to middle and high school. My biggest fear is that I will not have "with-it-ness" and won't be able to connect with my students.
